Bar Manager

The Honesdale Golf Club Board of Directors are searching for a committed, proactive Bar Manager who would enjoy work in an exciting, fast-paced environment. The Bar Manager will promote and grow our membership and train waitstaff, and ensure that our members/patrons are receiving excellent drinks, food, and service. You will also manage inventory and resources, plan promotional events with our chairpersons, ensure that quality and safety controls are followed, maintain current licenses and update vendor contracts, create schedules, and set business objectives to increase profits and maximize customer satisfaction. You should also be able to work with diverse personalities and diffuse tense situations.

In order to succeed as a Bar Manager, you should be observant and have the ability to think critically and efficiently. You should be a skilled communicator with excellent problem solving, observation, and interpersonal skills.

Bar Manager Responsibilities:

  • Manage the business aspects of the bar, such as keeping a current liquor license, negotiating supplier contracts, taking inventory and reordering supplies, managing budgets, and setting goals.
  • Hiring and training staff to provide excellent service to members/patrons.
  • Creating effective schedules and quickly resolving conflicts to ensure that bar is well staffed during peak hours.
  • Setting and enforcing quality and safety controls.
  • Ensuring licenses are updated and in line with current legislation.
  • Working with diverse personalities both on the staff and patrons.
  • Work with social media, and post promotional events through social media and electronic communications.
  • Planning and taking part in promotional events.
  • Diffusing tense situations between patrons or staff members to prevent possible safety or legal issues, ejecting unruly persons, if needed.
  • Maintaining a fun, safe atmosphere for patrons.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Welcoming customers, reading and listening to people to determine beverage preferences, making recommendations, and taking drink orders.
  • Planning drink menus and informing customers about new beverages and specials.
  • Selecting and mixing ingredients, garnishing glasses, and serving beverages to customers.
  • Checking identification to ensure customers are the legal age to purchase alcohol.
  • Taking inventory and ordering supplies to ensure bar and tables are well-stocked.
  • Adhering to all food safety and quality regulations.
  • Handling cash, credit, and debit card transactions, ensuring charges are accurate and returning correct change to patrons, balancing the cash register.
  • Maintaining a clean work and dining area by removing trash, cleaning tables, and washing glasses, utensils, and equipment.
  • Developing new cocktail recipes.

Bar Manager Requirements:

  • Minimum High School Diploma, with two year degree preferred.
  • Restaurant or management experience or more education is generally preferred.
  • Strong understanding of business management and accounting principles.
  • Excellent computer, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to diffuse tense situations and resolve conflicts.
  • Willingness to work during peak hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Effectively delegate responsibilities and maximize resources.
  • Decisiveness.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and occasionally carry heavy items in a fast-paced, stressful environment.

Additional Requirements:

  • Additional education, training, certificates, or experience may be required.
  • Meets state minimum age to serve alcohol.
  • Availability to work day, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Positive, engaging personality and professional appearance.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong task and time management abilities.
  • Eye for detail and understanding of drink mixing tools and techniques.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, etc for extended periods, and lift up to 25 lbs.
